Details Regarding Jesus' Crucifixion
Question
I am fully aware of Jesus' (peace be upon him)role in Islam, that he was never crucified, but raised up and is with Allah, but was curious to a few events in his life, that I see in Christian traditions. I wanted to know about "the last supper", are we as muslims supposed to believe it occured? If so, what were the things Jesus said exactly (if it is known), because in Christian tradition, he tells Judas, that he will betray him, and that Peter will deny him three times, etc. I'd like to know the specifics, and also, regarding the crucifixion, was it really Judas that was crucified? And if so, why? And how is it that we know that his features were similar to that of Jesus, or is this just speculation? Was Judas crucified because he betrayed the prophet (peace be upon him)? And if so, what exactly happened to him, was he tortured before he was actually put on the cross? Please, if you do not know the answer or if the information is unavailable to us, let me know, I dont appreciate speculative answers.
Response
I also do not like to indulge in speculative answers and am only concerned about Quran and Sunnah. I am glad that you are also interested in concrete answers only.
The Last Supper and other incidents that took place before Jesus's (pbuh) death are not covered in Quran so none of that can be a part of our faith. As you said these events are narrated in the books of bible and therefore are of only historical importance for us.
At most, what Quran says is that the 'matter was made dubious to them' (Quran 4:157), clearly implying that no one was able to figure out for sure what happened. As a result any discussion regarding what happened and what did not happen will be based on speculation. Any conclusion that we may derive thereof will not be considered reliable and therefore cannot be a part of our faith.
